Although this site has a long previous history, we know the site flourished in 600-900 a.c.

The ceremonial area is in a platform that with the time forms 7 bigs platform  of rocks that serve to construct a enormous labyrinth of sacred sites, palaces and building that together have more that 70m high, like a sacred montain inside them have all the history and evolution of this site.

Tonina was a important militar site decisive in thw political balance of this area, perhaps was represent by the important governor, tzots choj whit in the group thesepalaces ands sacred sites have comunication by tunneles the famous mural in stucco is called “las cuatro eras o soles” and “el templo del monstruo de la tierra”  that devour a sphere of rock that represent the sun.

In tonina (casas grandes de piedra) the effects of the power you can see in the acropolis in platform we can find a big square to play ball, various  sacred sites, relig altar, and sacred rock, that is fomred by 7 platforms.

In the 3er platform is the palace of underworld , the 4^th platform we can find the “el palacio de las grecas y guerra”, in the 6^th platform is the mural “de los cuatro soles” ,like a kind of sacred book made of stucco that represent the four cycle of the cosmos. In the platform  are the sacred sites “los prisioneros y el del espejo humeante” at the base of this last platform was found a sculture of tztoz- choj the last governor of Tonina.
